NCD BOULDER 2012

Friday 27 april 12 at Tielen.
Bouldermania is to its tenth edition. Coincidentally, this edition is for the National Championship of Defense. The concept will be different. After a selection of 25 problems in the morning, there will be a final in the afternoon. 15 men and 8 women will have to solve 4 boulder problems. The contest is also international, in addition to our British friends, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia are invited by the CISM.

National Army Championship lead climbing.

It’s a busy period for the Army, there are so many soldiers on assignment that participation in this championship as remained “limited”. Nevertheless appeared the most famous climbers and it became an exciting fight for a place on the podium. It was difficult to determine in advance who was in good shape. Eventually, everything went fine, the good organization that Commander Marc Wouters of the training center for commandos in Marche-les-Dames had undertaken, had no opening for any errors.

The by Yves Bourgois announced climbers appeared one by one for the final route built by the great Klimax team Michel De Vogel and Kris Smekens. Undoubtedly, Marc Vanlommel became all round winner by climbing entirely the final route and thus clinched two gold medals away (1st place overall and first place masters). The newly sprouted from the RMA Rens Govaers followed Marc in the general classification. Thierry Verveckken ended third and he was also second on the Masters podium followed by Willy Mercken as third master. The Masters podium was completely filled by the climbers of the 3rd Parachute Battalion from Tielen.

Eline Vanderbeke made the difference in the women category. A well deserved first place! With 6 points difference after her colleague from the RMA Marlies Baele and on third place Marijke Cogen.

Revision for lead climbers in Bernina (CH)

After one week revisions in Marche-les-Dames follows an annual mountain training for the already formed lead climbers. This year the training period took place again in Bernina, Switzerland. After this period several climbers could ad some nice routes on their record like the Bianco ridge, Piz Bernina, Piz Palu and on rock the via di mezzo Innomiata and the Cassin on Piz Badil. The beautiful weather and good conditions were on our side. Thanks to the knowledge and experience of Sanne Bosteels all lead climbers could go to their max…

Course lead climber...

From June 27 to July 10, 2011 the Training Centre for commandos organized there annual course lead climber for a group from the Belgium’s various combat units. Therefore, paratroopers went to the Ecole de Haute Montagne in Chamonix, France.

The course is not easy. The candidate lead climbers should not only be physically strong, they also have mastered the perfect climbing techniques. Once the course finished they will, back in Belgium, operating in the theater which is responsible for the safety of military personnel with little or no climbing experience.

Chrispin Fourie of the 3 Battalion at Tielen earned the “golden piollet†(best of the course).

Selections at Puurs and Woluwe.

The two selection days which took place on May 6 and June 13 exceeded the expectations of Team Captain Raphael Aerts and Coach Thierry Verveckken. Some names of the climbers were recorded to stay in touch with the National Team in the future. After the CISM in Austria was cancelled, we’re hoping for an international competition in the autumn.
